Symetra 1933
I had planned to post pictures of some of my most treasured vintage clothing today, but instead I decided to share some images from my most treasured sewing book- Symetra from 1933. This was one of the only things I brought back with me when my husband and I visited Prague three years ago.
I was lucky to find it. At the end of our week in the Czech Republic I had not bought a thing. There were very few shops or markets selling anything vintage. Then on one of the last days in Prague we stopped in a small cram packed 'junk' shop run by a sweet old man from Bosnia. We started talking and after I asked him if he had any vintage clothing for sale he said, 'come with me!' ushering us out of the shop to a borded up old store front a few doors down. Inside was a mecca of Victorian - 1950s vintage. This place was so packed full of clothing racks, hats, shoes, furniture and vintage jewelry that you could hardly walk around. The only problem? He wanted way too much for everything I asked about. More then I would ever pay for good vintage even if I wanted it really bad. Then out of the blue my husband says, 'Do you have sewing stuff?' A light went off in the guys head and he said he had one thing I might like. It was this book. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. The guy asked way too much for it but my husband bought it for me anyway. <3
It is similar to the Lutterloh system being a book full of patterns for the whole family only in miniture with a chart and guide to help enlarge the patterns to size.
After 3 years I still have not made anything from this book. It is written in Czech which I can not read. Since I started the 'Make a Month' challange I have not made anything from the 30s and there are several dresses in the book I really want to try my hand at. I think it is time to give the book a whirl for my next project.

What a fabulous book! I bet you could browse through it for hours.
I love the drawings! Made me think, how cool would it be to have a coloring book of women in vintage dresses?! I would totally buy one!
I notice that you follow me, I wanna make sure you can still see future entries, I've changed my blog link to theretronatural.blogspot.com :)
