The only thing that works for me is to use Lottabody setting lotion and to use either steam rollers or pin curls. And that's only *if* I leave them in 6+ hours.Yesterday I left my pin curl set in for 5 hours which was just not long enough as this morning I woke up to straight hair with frizzy ends. So today I am back in curlers, this time I am using my Curuso steam rollers.
They are bulky, heavy and uncomfortable but they get the job done. After another 6+ hours of this it makes me think, is it really worth it? I suppose so but it seems I spend more time in curlers then not. I could always cut my hair shorter so it would dry and set quicker, but I don't like how I look with shorter hair.
Here are the results.....
I wish I had a magic wand that would give me a perfect set in minutes instead of hours but this will have to do. I reccomend the Curuso Ionic steam rollers to all of you who also have stubborn straight hair.

btw
you your red locks!
I feel your pain. My hair is super straight and thick also- I have never been able to get it to hold a curl and then there's just so dang much of it, it takes hours to set. I've totally given up, so your hair is amazing to me, even if you don't like it! :D
I think your hair is lovely when it's straight as well. Love the color and the thickness! I go through the same thing only my hair is not as thick, it's very thin. Most days I use hot rollers with mousse & hairspray. Curling irons damage my thin hair. Sometimes I get tired and just put my hair in a ponytail!
I totally love your hair in the top pic as well as curled. I have long frizzy hair - not curly, not straight, a bit wavy, but mostly just frizzy!
You and La Dama have the best hair.

Incredibly jealous of your naturally dried hair, amazing! Of course, your hair is gorgeous both ways. The color is incredible, and it's so thick, I can't imagine what a chore coloring it must be! Well worth the effort though, you look amazing!
Do you ever sleep in the rollers? Thats what I do. I use Lottabody and foam rollers and the curls stay in my hair for days. Its the only thing that works, as I have stick straight hair too. Either way, I like the straight on you as well.
La Dama - That is a fantastic tutorial! I pretty much have my hair in the femme fatal cut but I think it is time for a trim to take some of the weight off now my hair is almost to my waist. Using smaller rollers at the bottom is a great idea!
SusieQT- Thanks so much. :)I do like my hair once curled, I just don't like how long it takes to set, heh.
islandgirl- Ponytails are my quick and easy go-to hair style as well. I confess I have it up in a pony more often then set in curls.
Ginger- Thanks so much! The red is really easy to maintain. The dye I use doesn't fade much so now all I have to do is root tuch ups once a month.
Temperamental Broad- I sleep in pin curls all the time but I have not tried foam rollers. I'll try them next, thanks for the suggestion. :)
I feel your pain, I have stupidly thick hair although I am very fortunate in the fact that my hair does curl. I can't sleep in foam rollers as I need so many to make it curl that my head is about a foot from the pillow and it's darned uncomfortable.
I'm a hot roller girl, it's the only way for me!
