Spring Fever!

We spent the entire weekend with our hands in the dirt working on the garden. It took two trips to the garden center just to buy enough soil for the greenhouse planters but now we now have cucumbers, lettuce of all sorts, broccoli, brussle sprouts and jalapenos in there. And on one side of the yard in ground I now have a nice size onion patch. It doesn't sound like much but after shoveling dirt and digging to plant 100 onions in ground I now have a blister the size of South Dakota on my thumb, heh.

This morning I woke up to find the first of my daffodils had blossomed. Spring is here and I am so ready for it! In celebration of my spring fever I splurged and bought myself a summery vintage pedal pusher and crop top pattern from 1950- Simplicity 3250. How cute is this?  I already have a 50s style pattern for pants I drafted myself that I use all the time, but I am enjoying sewing from vintage patterns and wanted to add a pair of capris to the list.

I love that the original owner has written the date on the pattern- March 1950. It thrills me to think that exactly 61 years ago someone was planning the same exact outfit. ;)

I am going to make veiw 1 without the jacket. The pattern has not arrived in the mail yet but I couldn't wait and already bought some fabric for it. I got plain black cotton stretch sateen for the the pants but I can't decide if I want to use a contrast fabric. I am toying with the idea of using white with black polka dots for the pant cuffs and the center part of the bra top. Or possibly a plaid? If I like the fit on this I think I will also make a set in navy with blue and white striped contrast. Can't wait to get started!

Straight Talking Mama- I think the capris would look fab on you! 40s/50s trousers are so forgiving and flattering. I think they would look great paired with a vintage wing collar button up blouse and a belt. ;)

Living Vintage- One of the perks of living in Southern California is definitely the weather. It's great we get such a mild winter and early spring but we don't get much of a fall which I miss dearly. I bet autumn is glorious in your neck of the woods!
