Hello blogland! It's been a while since my last vintage pattern post, but after a month of only sewing for others I fianlly got around to sewing something for myself. In anticipation of warmer weather I made Simplicity 3250, a 1950s pedal pusher and halter top set. I made version #1 on the right out of black stretch sateen with black and white striped cotton contrast.
I had the usual fit issues I had to adjust. Pants are particularly tricky for me since I am both short and short waisted. While these are still very high waisted pants I ended up shortening the torso by almost two inches! I also took out about 3" width on the pant legs and raised the crotch level by 3/4". The result is still very much a typical 50s cut pair of pants- high waist and giving in the legs and seat. So very flattering for the curves! The only other mod I made was I put the zipper at center back. I am not a fan of sewing in side zippers, especially when there are pockets involved.
The top I had very little adjustments to make other than size. The pattern was a size 16 which usually fits my 36" bust, but this one measured up to a 40" bust which I had to take in. It has been chilly and gray out here in California but I am so anxious for warm weather I wore it out today anyway resulting in me being pretty darn cold all day, heh. With that in mind I may just make the matching jacket after all!
Here are some better pictures of the details:
Two thumbs up for Simplicity 3250! I like this one so much I am already picking out fabric to make another set. ;)

Wow - you look great. Well done!
ooooh love it made up! I am the same as you short and short waisted, I always have to alter trouser patterns from the 50s. The outfit looks too cute!

You are amazing. Id love to see in your closet!
Oh wow that's fabulous! Fantastic job!
I'm with you...short and short waisted to boot. High waisted pants always end up being a bonus push up bra on me :) The outfit looks fab on you!

Looks fabulous I am also short and short waisted do you ever think of a tutorial on altering the patterns? I have that pattern I am good at making my patterns larger but have not tried altering any pants because of my short torso.
how stunning you look, love the little anchors.
I too am short waisted Mama.I would buy these babies.I wish i knew how to sew.
You're totally rockin' this look! Well done, hope you get some warm weather soon!
You're totally working that look! And looking hot! Love it!
Great look! Is the top easy to make? I'm thinking of getting this pattern so I can make the top...my machine skills are ok, but I wouldn't be able to make the pants I don't think!
Living Vintage- I'd be happy to make a tutorial. It may take me a week or so to get around to it but I promise I'll make one. ;)
Dolly Cool Clare- The top was fairly simple to make but the instructions were really vague which may cause some frustration. I cheated and used my serger to finish some of the inside seams instead of sticking to the old (and time consuming) way of seam finishing.
Thanks! I think I will buy it and give it a go anyway....although I'm sure it wont look as neat as yours! ;)
