Simplicity 2441 bathing suit into a dress

Today I was digging through my closet and I re-discovered two dresses I made about 5 years ago (closet archaeology!) using Simplicity 2441- a bathing suit pattern from 1948.

This is such a wonderful pattern. When I bought it I had intended to make a bathing suit with it, but after doing a muslin mock up I decided I would like it as a dress better.

As you can see, I made a big change to the design. This was easy to do since the pattern already has a slight hole where you insert the bow tie. All I did was lower it by tucking down the tip of the center front skirt panel. The fabric I used is a burgundy leopard print moleskin. Probably a little too heavy for this pattern but I have loads of it, so there you go.

After making this one I decided to make another one. This time in lime green leopard print. (I really, really like leopard print, heh.)

Since the green leopard was already obnoxious I went full tilt and added fringe and a row of neon green tikis all around. Perfection! Though this one turned out too small for me in the bust so I think I am going to sell it. Look for it in my Etsy shop some time this weekend. If anyone is interested it has about a 32"-33" bust and 26" waist.
Since re-discovering the dresses I decided to dig the pattern back out last night. I have that cherry print fabric I bought for another dress that I may use for one of these instead. Ah, so many patterns I want to make! This make a month goal is turning into a Make Several a Month, hehe.
