Sewing project for February

I sorta decided to unofficially join a 'Make a month' sewing project for 2011. I say sorta because I didn't sign up officially but decided to promise myself I would sew at least one of the many vintage patterns I have once a month this year. With all the vintage patterns I have collected that just sit collecting dust this is a great idea, right? Put those bad boys to use! So after digging in my pattern stash I have selected two patterns I want to have finished for February. They are both from the 40's, McCalls 6383 and Advance 2117.

I ordered black with small yellow polka dot fabric for this one. I'll add yellow ruffly trim and top stitch with yellow thread. I just love the gathered apron! If I like how it turns out I am thinking maybe to make another one in a solid color with embroidery from a vintage transfer pattern along the neckline.

This one is my favorite of the two. Simple but so sweet. I'm going to make view 2 with the flutter sleeves. I actually think I am going to make two of these. I have ordered a classic black and red cherry print fabric and I am going to use the red gingham bias I photographed above for the edging. I'm thinking the pocket should be solid red? For the second one I am going to do it in a gorgeous cream lace. A bit fancy for a house dress but who says I have to wear it only around the house? I love lace dresses since you can change the color of the dress simply by wearing a differet color slip under it.

Right now I am wrapped up in sewing for customers so I won't have time to get started for a few days. I promise I will post progress pictures as I work on them. In the mean time, lets talk shoes. While I have way too many pairs of cute summer wedgies that hurt my feet and I never wear, I only have three pair I will actually wear. One is leopard and cork, the other two are black. What I really want is a pair of red summer shoes. I already have a pair of these gorgeous Fluevog red mary janes:

Oh I love 'em. They are drop dead sexy but they HURT MY FEET so I never wear them.

I found these cuties for cheap on Ebay for sale, but how much do you want to bet they will also hurt my feet? In this case I can already predict the back on the strap will rub my skin raw. But you know what? For $16 bucks and some change I think I might just get them any way. If I can find it I want a similar pair in pink and possibly in yellow. They will look fab with all the dresses from vintage patterns I will be making this year!

Has anyone here bought from Re-mix? I have been tempted to order the Ritas but I am curious how they fit. If they are comfortable I would buy them in at least three colors!

Thanks so much Straight Talking Mama! Glad to have you here. :)

Living Vintage- Thanks for the feedback. Which heels did you get that did not work out for you? How was the fit on them- small, narrow or wide?
