Vanity shoe sizing

Has anyone else noticed that modern shoe sizes are getting bigger and bigger?  Remember those cute red wedgies I mentioned I wanted last week? I ordered them and they arrived today. I bought what I thought would be the correct size but they ended up being half a size too big.

Ugh, it's so frustrating! I have always been a true size American 8 in shoes up until 2-3 years ago when all the new shoes I would buy I would need a 7 1/2. Ok, so from then on I always order size 7 1/2. Fast forward to last weekend while I was trying on shoes at Steve Madden only to find I now take a size 6 /12! What the heck is going on? My feet are definitely NOT shrinking so it must be shoe makers vanity sizing.

Luckily I can simply add an insole to make my new shoes fit better, but still. I just don't understand why a company would think it would be a good idea to change their sizing knowing how many people are ordering shoes on-line these days. I have my eye on several other pair of summer shoes I want to order but now I am scared to buy them. I guess in the case of shoe shopping you really need to do it the old fashioned way in a brick and morter store.

On a happier note, I have chosen the next pattern I want to sew for my March 'Make a Month'. I chose Anne Adams 4501.

When I bought this pattern I thought it was a dress but after giving a look through yesterday I realized it is actually a 2pc skirt and top pattern. Even better! I was just thinking I needed more cute summer tops. I choose this classic cherry print fabric to make it out of which will match my new red shoes perfectly. I am excited to get started on this one, I don't think I can wait til March! This will have to be an extra one for February I think. ;)

oooh I love that pattern it does look like a dress but I agree even better as a top & skirt!

That's annoying about vanity sizing, why would they do that with shoes? I sadly haven't been able to afford to come to the States in the last 3 years but when I get back I'll be sure to keep an eye out I always buy loads of shoes when I'm over there and I'm already a smallish size at 6.5.

OMG I have noticed this. I am sure I used to be a 40. Then a 39. Now, it seems I am a 37. It makes buying shoes online nightmarish!

Vanity sizing is frustrating and all over the place! On the other side of things, I'm okay with vanity shoe sizing because I've got huge feet and that means more shoe options for me :)
