How to Control It! And get to the point...

And by control it, I mean the Maidenform brand Control It! girdle.

I've been wearing girdles in a daily basis for about 12 years and bullet bras for over 20. When I first started wearing girdles I would only wear vintage ones. I confess, I was a bit of a vintage girdle/bra snob. Let's face it. they really don't make them like they used to. I used to refer to my favorite 50s era Adonna girdle as my 'super power pants'. And yes indeed, they were super power pants. I still have that girdle but it's sadly plum wore out. After admitting to myself I needed a new girdle I bought several vintage ones on Ebay and even a few of the modern 'shapewear' variety to try. (Spanx? No thanks. Did nothing for me.) None of them lived up to my old Adonna. I ended up settling for a version of my preferred high waist shorts type of girdle from Victorias Secret that I had to take in just to make it do any sort of shaping to my figure. Was it comfortable  Yes. Did it do it's job as shapewear? No.

I almost gave up finding THE girdle, but then I found this:

At first I was skeptical. It looked too much like the VC brand girdle that was a fail. But ones trying it on I was sold. This one was it. Why? It does what it was meant to do. Flattens your bulgy bits and smooths it all out. And as far as girdles go it's pretty damn conformable. And for only $32 bucks it's affordable. If you are in the look out for new shapewear I highly recommend trying out the Maidenform line.

Another great option for a high waist girdle that gets the job done is this one:

I don't personally have one of these yet but I've heard great things about it. It's definitely on my list to buy!

Now I'll get to the point! As far as bullet bras go, I prefer a long line. I like the seamless contouring you get when you wear a high waist girdle with a longline bra. My all time favorite bullet is the Bali bow bra. I've been lucky enough to find a few vintage ones in my size through out the years but gave not had much luck finding one for a while. Unlike the difficulty finding a modern girdle I like, there are two companies that make a great longline.

One being the Rago Upper Body Firm Shaping Lingline Bra (Retails for $44.00)

...and the other being the What Katie Did satin longline.  (retails for $75.00)

As lovely as both of these are, they are out of my price range at the moment. (Though as far as a good bra goes $44 bucks for the Rago is a good deal.)  What I ended up finding that fit the bill for me is this one:

At first glance it looks pretty run of the mill, but if you look up close, it's almost a dead ringer for a 50s Bali bow bra! I found this on Ebay from seller Half Price Deals, and for only $7.99. When I ordered it I did't have my hopes up that it would be a great fitting bra. But for $8 bucks I didn't really care. Lucky for me this one is a win! It shapes your waist and torso, lifts and separates and most importantly gives a great bullet bra shape. It comes in black or white and also in a front closing version. If you are a vintage loving girl like me who is looking for a bullet bra but on a limited budget give this one a try! It's now my favorite every day bra.

PS- this is NOT an endorsed post. It's just my honest opinion about these items.
