Butterick 6820 - Do over!

<---Remember this dress? I made and posted about this back in January as my first 'Make a Month' dress using Butterick 6820. This one had all sorts of fit issues. As much as I like the design this pattern was ill fitting.  Since the day I finished it it has been sitting in my closet unworn. I've pulled it out and tried it on several times but I just don't like the way it looks on me. I like the design and fit of the bodice ok, but the skirt had to go. What this dress needed was a solid black fitted skirt and a longer waistline.

Yesterday morning I started the sloooow process of picking out the zipper and skirt so I could begin on a do-over. Here it is now!

I added a 1 1/2" wide 'belt' to extend the waistline. Then I used my self drafted basic pencil skirt pattern using black stretch sateen (my favorite fabric ever!). I picked out the pockets from the old circle skirt which sit much better on the thicker sateen then they did on the thin bengaline.

After wearing it for a bit I decided to take the bottom button off and add it to the top under the collar. Now just add a belt and a pair of heels and it's good to go. Much better!
