Last week on a whim I decided to redecorate my bedroom. Anyone else ever do that? All of a sudden I couldn't stand the sight of it anymore. For the most part I've had the same bedroom decorations up for the past 8+ years. It was long over do. I am too embarrassed to post the 'before' pictures, it was pretty bad. So here are the beginnings of my 'afters'.
My bedside table is too short leaving a big empty patch of wall that needs something. I'm thinking a third row of wall shelves and a lamp on the table would work well.
The second thing I did was borrow these two vintage 1950s lamps from the living room to set on the tv stand. (Yes, it's from Ikea. Not everything in my house is vintage.) I also moved a bunch of my vintage Asian figurines to set on the wall shelves. Our bed is a very modern looking futon that my husband picked out. The quilt I made from my sewing room scrapes. I can't even remember where we found the bedside table but it's a very shabby handmade step stool we have had for over 20 years. It's a work in progress. I don't have any budget to work with so the furniture and the wall color will have to stay. If I had my way I would swap most of my furniture in here for vintage pieces but until then this is what I have to work with.
This little vintage lamp is on my wish list. It would look perfect on the nightstand!
Luckily I have a few different cans of paint in the garage to work with. I painted the shoe racks a metallic silver which looks much better then the chippy distressed black paint they had before. The black curtains however need to go! I was thinking something along the lines of this gorgeous vintage chinoiserie barkcloth:
I am on the hunt for new bedding. I love my quilt but would like to have a variety of colors and textures to choose from. I am coveting this gorgeous soft yellow ruffly duvet cover from Urban Outfitters. So pretty!
I also like this one which has vintage charm, but I don't think my husband would go for it.
Or perhaps a vintage peacock chenille bedspread like this one?

I love the chenille bedspread! That (or one similar) would look so great in your room! I've been dying to re-do my bedroom, too, but my hubby works nights, and since he tries to sleep during the day the windows are currently covered with every dark towel and blanket we could scrounge up. Including one that says "Hawaii" on it! It's a glamorous look, lemme tell ya :-)
Nice job on the re-do. Paint goes a long way in completely changing the feel of a room. I also am digging all the lamps, totally cool. I bought a lovely chenille bedspread but I'm too worried my kitty will tear it up to actually use it.
Yes I am like that, just suddenly I'll shout this needs to change and my husband says it's like a whirlwind going through the house and suddenly it's changed!

That peacock bedspread is incredible! I completely relate with your need to re-do rooms. I've been contemplating doing a total overhall of my bedroom for a while now... I think you've given me some ideas! :) x
