Flea Market Dress Bonanza!

Last Sunday was a 50s dress bonanza at my favorite local flea market. I rarely come home with so many great finds! Sadly most of them are not my size but I can never pass over a beuatiful vintage dress when I find it for a great price! All of them are going up on Ebay here if anyone is interested.

1950's pink organza prom dress. Measures 34 bust 27 waist.

1950's gray and pink dress. Measures 42-32-44.

This dress is a vintage do-over. When I bought it I didn't realize it was a childs size nor did I notice it had previously been alterered from a 50s dress into a 70s style empire dress. Woops! Luckily the former owner left over an inch of extra seam allowance inside so I was able to alter it. What I did was pick the thing apart stitch by stitch and re-make it back into a 50's dress in an adult size. The skirt had been a full gathered type which I was able to get a both a 3" amont of waistband (to lower the empire waist to a standard bodice length) and a full circle skirt out of. The white gathered bit at the waist is what used to be one side of the waist ties of all things. (Why you would make waist ties that thick and bulky is beyond me. Worked out great as a mock cummerbund!) I used every last bit of the original dress save for some white lace trim I added on. The only thing that didn't work out about this was that there are itty bitty holes in the fabric you can see where I picked out the old seams. I tried to iron them out but they wouldn't budge. Oh well. Over all it's much better then it was. Anyhoo. It is on Ebay here.  It's now a 36 bust, 28 waist.

This one I may keep so I have not listed it yet. It's such a fab color and has all the original rhinestones! I looove the plastic buttons down the back. This one is super long on me though, I would have to hack a good 6" off the hem!

I still have a few dresses to list but I'm tired of sitting at the computer and typing! Hehe. Have a great night ya'll and thanks for looking. ;)
